#WIPpet Wednesday – April 17, 2019

Hello and welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a blog hop wherein writers share an excerpt from their current WIP that somehow relates to the date.  To join in, simply click the blue linky up there to the right.

Whomp whomp. Camp NaNo continues to go well and I on track for 25k this month. I can’t believe that I’m closing in on 50k so far in this draft. And I’m not reaching the end, or already padding, which is what has happened with most other things I’ve ever written. So it’s nice to think that I’m evolving as a writer in terms of really being able to carry a plot. I’m really enjoying my renewed passion for this story. The idea of actually finishing a first draft within the next few months actually seems within the realm of possibility. After struggling with really sorting out ideas and also with a lot of self-doubt for so long, this is a welcome change.

For the WIPpet this week, I have 13 lines because I subtracted 4 from 17. Alex has just suggested to Ria that they spend some time together to begin brainstorming how her circus act will take shape. Lucy has some thoughts.

He returned to the men he’d been helping with the set. Lucy grabbed me the by the arm. She was grinning broadly.

“What?”

“I have known Alex for twelve years. He is one of my best friends. So believe me when I say he is obviously sweet on you.”

“What? No! We’ve practically just met.” I could feel my cheeks turning red, but there was a little part of me that was secretly pleased that what Lucy said might be true.

“Oh, really? You think it’s his job to help you develop your act?”

“Is it not?”

Lucy laughed. “Apart from his roles on the crew, it’s Alex’s job to help Jeremiah balance the books and manage the running of the circus. To make sure the train leaves on time. To make sure there’s enough food on the train when we have a long trip between venues. He’s not completely separate from action, true, and one day he’ll be the ringmaster. Probably. But trust me, he’s looking for a way to spend time with you.” .

Happy Easter to those who celebrate it in one form or another. I will be around blogging over the weekend.

    1. *whispers* I don’t want to jinx anything, but I have set up a goal tracker on the NaNoWriMo website with the aim of finishing the draft by the end of June.
