Hello and welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a blog hop wherein writers share an excerpt from their current WIP that somehow relates to the date. To join in, simply click the blue linky up there to the right.
I reached my Camp NaNo goal of 12k for the month of July! And I also finally figured out a bit more of the plot, so I have something to work with there. I’m mostly making this up as I go along, but I have plenty of gaps to fill in while I’m plotting out the rest. I don’t tend to write the first draft sequentially, I just write things as they come to me and then fix it in subsequent drafts.
For the WIPpet this week, I have 8 paragraphs. This is the scene just after Ria has been offered a position in the circus, and has rocked up bck at the pub where she’s been working and declared she’s leaving.
“They’re leaving on Thursday.”
“Thursday? You’re giving me two days’ notice?”
“I guess so.”
“Ria, I’ve just started to get your name out there, associated with this pub. I’m happy for you to leave, but you need to stay for a while and let me make some kind of announcement.”
I shook my head, not daring to look at him. “I can’t. If I do that, the proprietor might not let me join them. I don’t think he liked me very much, he just liked what I could do. They might find someone else in the next town if I don’t go with them now.”
Anders threw his hands up. “Oh, well, we wouldn’t want that. It’s not like you already have a perfectly good job here.”
“Well, I’m sorry I don’t want to spend my entire life playing in your dingy tavern!” I yelled back at him, and stormed up the stairs.
“What? Is that what you think? Well, then, go! I won’t miss you!”
This scene only came about because I was writing the scene where she returns here after leaving the circus and Anders’ reception of her was rather frosty, so then I had to go and write this scene to figure out why.
Hope you’re all doing well this week. 🙂
P. S. If you’re interested, I still talk about what I’m reading over on my other blog every Wednesday. You can read today’s here.
