#WIPpet Wednesday – January 10, 2018

Hello and welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a blog hop wherein writers share an excerpt from their current WIP that somehow relates to the date.  To join in, simply click the blue linky up there to the right.

December was so busy that this blog went pretty much silent, but now that it’s January and I’m getting back into my regular routines, I’m hoping that I’ll be able to hang out with you guys with a bit more regularity. Especially since I’m not studying until July, though I am preparing for my trek in Nepal in April, so I’m spending a lot more time walking and hiking than usual. We’ll see how everything goes. That’s all anyone can hope for.

If you read my 2018 goals post, you’ll see that my intention was to rotate through my three WIPs month-by-month. I’ve started doing that, in that I was reading through them, but the other day when I sat down to actually write, I ended up finding a prompt and starting a short piece. This will actually be posted here in full on Saturday, so this is just a teaser. I have 10 sentences for the 10th day of the month.

Jenna clutched at the seam of her robe, bunching up the black fabric in her hands.

“Just breathe,” she whispered to herself again. “There are only a thousand or so people out there. What’s to worry about?”

She exhaled, and checked her notes once again. In the darkness of the wings, she couldn’t really see the words printed on the page, but knowing they were there made her feel a little bit calmer. She ran her finger along the edge of her mortarboard, and then checked it was secure and wouldn’t fall off when she was halfway to the lectern.

The Vice-Chancellor was winding up his speech now, and it would only be a few more moments before –

The bang sent her diving for the floor before she had even registered what it was. The screams started moments later.

Yikes. Sounds scary. You’ll have to come back on Saturday to read the rest. 😉

  1. Damn! You disappear for weeks and them return with … with that! Are you trying to give us heart failure (or just trying to get us to come again on Saturday to read more 😉 )?

  2. Great teaser! Already I’m sympathizing with Jenna’s stagefright, and then the plot thickens with that bang! Another wonderful start to 2018. Thank you for hosting and facilitating WIPpet.
