rebels and rebellions, story a day challenge

#FictMAYhem #StoryADay May 30, 2017

Welcome! This month I’m writing a small story each day to try to brainstorm a future full-length novel, a sequel to my current WIP Memories and Magic, which is tentatively titled Rebels and Rebellions.

Today’s prompt is: Maybe.

“Thank you for speaking up for us in the end.”

Was that really all she had to say? Last night she had been kissing him and now words were failing her. Why did everything feel so awkward now that it was time to say goodbye?

“Will I see you again?”

“I’m sure a diplomatic visit to Thelidon could be arranged. I’ve heard it’s nice this time of year.”

“It’s covered in snow.”

“Well, I’ve never had the chance to ski before. Bit too hot up this way.”

Clara grinned at the thought of Rikard on skis. She was bad enough at the sport and she had grown up skiing every winter. Someone from a country where the cold weathehttps://lettingthevoicesout.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=145&action=editr meant wearing a slightly longer pair of pants had no hope. Still, she liked the idea of teaching him.

She looked down and realised he was still holding her hand. He followed her gaze and then caught her eye again.

“In another time and place, this could have worked out very differently, couldn’t it?”

Clara nodded. “I’m the worst person to get involved with,” she said. “I’ve no choice about any of…” She gestured vaguely between them. “This.”

“Well,” Rikard replied, “it was nice while it lasted.”

“Yes,” Clara agreed, resisting the urge to sigh deeply with resignation. “It certainly was.”
